RESPONSIBLE FOR: Support service to clients who are homeless, vulnerable or disadvantaged.
Our client has an excellent and validated track record of providing high quality outcomes focused support services to a wide range of client groups across the North East. These include people with mental health, alcohol or drug issues, a history of offending, people with learning, physical or sensory impairments and long term conditions, younger or older people with support needs, teenage parents or people at risk of domestic abuse or homelessness.
Advice and Support Workers provide impartial and confidential information, advice and support to individuals about a wide range of issues such as homelessness, drug and alcohol misuse, domestic violence and other issues.
MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
Working as an Advice and Support Worker, you will have great interpersonal skills, can relate to people from different backgrounds, and are resourceful when helping others reaches solutions to problems. You will provide impartial, confidential advice and information to clients on a range of issues.
This role requires flexibility along with enthusiastic, self-motivated and creative individuals. You need the ability to work on your own initiative in a busy and dynamic role as well as a being a Positive Team Player. This role is for a passionate individual who believes they can make a difference to individual’s lives. To provide support to vulnerable residents living in Newcastle will include duties will include but are not limited to the following:
Providing advice and support to people who wish to live in an independent tenancy and those who already have their own accommodation
Offering home visits and office based appointments, as well as appointments at venues across the City where required in order to effectively support a person
Assisting people with budgeting and debt issues
Assisting people to access the appropriate benefits, including help them to appeal against decisions
Assessing what support is needed to help someone manage their tenancy and providing that support directly or signposting onto other services who can provide the support
Give people advice and assistance on how to furnish their property
Giving people practical help and advice on how to set up and continue to run their home
Case recording effectively
Being able to show sensitivity and a non-judgemental attitude when dealing with vulnerable people
Dealing with other agencies effectively and advocating on a service user’s behalf where needed
Referring into other services such as Children’s and Adult Services where required
Strong people skills are a requirement for almost any job in the social sector but as an Advice and Support Worker these skills will be really tested and essential. An Advice and Support Worker will meet lots of different people regular, so being able to communicate effectively with people from all walks of life is vital.
Previous experience working in a similar service based or community.
It would be beneficial if candidate has previous experience working with various electronic record systems.
